Summary

The Lorain County Community Development Department is home to two full-time staff members that manage fair housing programs  and allocate the County's allotment of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Community Housing Impact & Preservation Program (CHIP) 

Program Summary

Lorain County has partnered with the Cities of Oberlin, North Ridgeville and Sheffield Lake for this program. The service area includes the unincorporated areas of Lorain County, Avon, Avon Lake and Amherst and includes Oberlin, North Ridgeville and Sheffield Lake as partners. The attached information will briefly describe the programs offered and the requirements for participation: Households must be at or below 80% of median income in order to be eligible. Household income guidelines are included and apply to all programs.

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program provides annual grants on a formula basis to states, cities, and counties to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. The program is authorized under Title 1 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, Public Law 93-383, as amended 42 U.S.C. 5301 et seq. (from U.S. HUD)
