The mission of the Lorain County Office of Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security is to serve the citizens of Lorain County through effective planning for natural and man-made disasters. Our goal is to save lives and to protect property through coordination of an integrated emergency management system with all emergency response organizations, support services and volunteers.

We will be an advocate for greater community efforts, including educating the general public to mitigate and prepare for potential emergencies. We will support efforts to train and exercise emergency responders in both the public and private sectors. We will manage and coordinate efforts toward a rapid recovery from disasters with an effective disaster assistance program.

This agency is committed to effective actions to prevent some disasters and to reduce the impact of those over which we have no control.

New Dumpsters for Flood Damaged Materials

The Lorain County Board of Commissioners announced that two locations have been selected to allow Lorain County residents to dispose of household materials that were damaged or destroyed during the severe flooding that occurred over the past two weeks.

Two local Lorain County businesses (Sugar Ridge Inc. of Carlisle Township and Cooper Disposal of Avon) have been selected to provide the equipment and manpower for this free event. The locations, dates, and times are as follows:

Lorain County Community College

Friday March 18, 2011 • 9 am – 5 pm
Saturday March 19, 2011 • 9 am – 5 pm

Lorain County Joint Vocational School

Friday March 18, 2011 • 9 am – 5 pm
Saturday March 19, 2011 • 9 am – 5 pm

Online Flooding Resources Now Available

The Lorain County Office of EMA & Homeland Security has released the following online resources to help residents cope with the flooding; Tips for Purchasing Flood Insurance, Guidelines for Ohio Home Improvement, and lastly a Recovering Fact Sheet.
