Information for Visitors
Lakes. Hills. Lighthouses. Where the best comes into view.
Lorain County is located along the shores of Lake Erie, between the cities of Cleveland and Sandusky. It’s an ideal spot to travel while visiting North Central Ohio. The backroads in Lorain County are more open, allowing you to stop and see all the scenic spots along your route. There are plenty of destinations you will remember for a lifetime.
State and local parks allow you and your family to see a variety of plants and animals in their natural habitat. One of the most notable spots is Findley State Park, located south of Wellington, around 900 acres of beautiful woodland and a 93 acre lake. Findley offers the hottest trends in recreation; such as birding, mountain biking, and disc golfing. Anyone can enjoy a multi-sport adventure in one of Lorain County’s beautiful parks.
Visitors also enjoy the quaint, small-town feel of Lorain County’s charming communities. They include the progressive village of Oberlin, Ohio; an eclectic college town known as "The Town that Started the Civil War". Take the award-winning Underground Railroad Tour which visits the historic homes, churches and gravesites of those who fought for human rights in Oberlin years ago.
Shoppers will enjoy unique specialty stores, flea markets, art exhibits, and antique shops. Locals love Jamie's Flea & Produce Market in South Amherst, Northeastern Ohio's largest flea market; over a ¼ million shop at Jamie’s every year.
