Lorain County - The Lorain County Board of Commissioners approved at this morning’s meeting a contract to Green Home Solutions for roof repairs and bathroom plumbing in the amount of $5,425 and a contingency for unforeseen conditions of $542. The repair will assist a homeowner in Avon Lake.
This project is 100% funded through a Community Housing Impact Program (CHIP) Grant that the County applied for and received in 2016. Lorain County, in partnership with the cities of Oberlin and Sheffield Lake applied for and was awarded over $1.1 million dollars. These funds are used to maintain homeownership, preserve affordable housing and protect and stabilize neighborhoods. Funds are also used for Fair Housing program, Tenant Based Rental Assistance through Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority and the administration of the program.
The CHIP Program Year 2016 funds are fully committed to projects. The County plans on applying for funding in 2018. The grants are on a two year cycle, meaning the County cannot apply again until the 2018 Program Year. The CHIP funds can be used to preserve housing in all Lorain County communities except for Lorain, Elyria and Vermilion which operate their own programs.
