Lorain County Commissioners have terminated their agreement with Huffmaster to provide security at the Lorain County Department of Job and Family Services. The termination action happened Friday within hours of the release of photos on Facebook. The photos showed 6 uniformed security workers clustered around a picnic table in close sight of striking employees.
The security company was clearly instructed by the county to monitor the internal and external environment of the JFS Building from inside.Instead, the clustering of guards in plain sight of picketers sent the wrong message and purpose of their assignment.Their actions were insensitive and stupid. Such behavior by this security firm or any other in the future will not be condoned.
Security is for the purpose of safety for everyone. The county has complete trust in its striking employees. No trouble was ever anticipated. The county is concerned about the possibility of an outside party being disruptive or confrontation by someone wanting to express their anger at or frustration with government. If an altercation were to happen, security is instructed to call the Sheriff’s Department and provide assistance until help arrives.
AFIMAC GLOBAL of Strongsville has been retained to provide security. The company started Monday.Security was hired during the 2014 strike by UAW 2192.Such firms are hired during strikes. The average cost is between $10,000 to $14,000 per week for security service during the strike.
