The Personnel Department is a public service human resources agency that is committed to providing quality, professional support and leadership in employment, benefits, compensation, safety, training and employee relations, while fostering the Board of Commissioners' vision that Lorain County is indeed "lighting the way" in County Government.
The Safety Risk Office handles a variety of duties for Lorain County; Workers Compensation Claims, General Liability Insurance (including renewal, providing certificates of insurance for agreements, events, files insurance claims); and secures bonds for elected and appointed Officials. This office also handles ergonomics in the County offices. Safety-Risk holds Safety Committee Meetings bi-monthly and offers some training for various topics.
If your department needs proof of insurance, they can request a Certificate of Insurance for the vendor or person requesting the information, from the Safety Risk Office.
The Payroll Management Office ensures that the payroll is done accurately and timely for the employees that report directly to the Lorain County Commissioners. This department is also responsible for maintaining accurate personnel records, new hire paperwork / orientation and also employees’ accumulated, accrued, and used time. Any payroll or personnel questions can be referred to this department at the number listed above.
The Benefits & Insurance Office provides information on eligibility for the Lorain County Health Plan and life insurance for employees and their dependents. This includes administering the flexible spending accounts, which is a pre-tax benefit to the employee. We also administer the COBRA for eligible participants.
