County Flag

This white flag shows a blue map of Lorain County, including part of Lake Erie - symbolized by dark blue. The red point located in Lake Erie symbolizes the Historical Lighthouse which once acted as a Beacon of Light to boats sailing in Lake Erie. Each of the 9 gold stars symbolizes the 9 main cities in Lorain County.

April 6-12: The Board of Commissioners sponsor a flag design contest for area Junior High School Students, in conjunction with celebrating Lorain County Government Week. |

September 10: Carla Koepp, 14 year old of Lorain Catholic High School is chosen as the flag winner by local citizen judges: J. Grant Keys, Tommy Page and Bobby Lynch. |

Flag entry is sent to Barry Madigan Corporation, Cleveland, Ohio. The company constructs a 4’ x 6’ replica of Ms. Koepp’s design. |

May 18: Lorain County Board of Commissioners by Resolution No. 93-404 officially adopt the Lorain County Flag, to be flown in front of the J. Grant Keys Lorain County Administration Building, Elyria, Ohio. |

The flag design by Ms. Koepp is forwarded to the Lorain County Historical Society for safekeeping and as a historical preservation. |
