Grant Programs
Lorain County Solid Waste Management District
The following grants are available through the Lorain County Solid Waste Management District.
DISTRICT MARKET DEVELOPMENT GRANT
The whole point of recycling solid waste is to provide raw materials for the manufacture of new goods. This program is designed to indirectly increase the collection of those raw materials by stimulating the demand for them. By subsidizing the purchase of materials and finished goods containing recycled material, these grants will automatically raise the demand for such material, through the basic free market mechanism of supply and demand.
This grant program is a voluntary offering by the Lorain County Board of Commissioners and the Lorain County Solid Waste Management District. As such, the decision to continue offering the program in any given year is entirely at the discretion of the Board of Commissioners. For more information, please download the Requirements and Application for the District Market Development Grant.
RECYCLING REVOLVING LOAN FUND
This fund was created for the purpose of providing low interest loans to Lorain County Businesses and organizations (including non-profits) that utilize recycled materials either in their building materials or in their manufacturing process.
The Fund serves as an economic development tool by promoting business expansion in Lorain County and in attracting new businesses and industry. The loans can not be used for working capital, debt financing or land purchases. For more information, please download the Revolving Loan Fund Application, Required Documents, and Required Attachments.
REFURBISHED COMPUTER PROGRAM
This program is a by-product of the District’s E-Scrap Collection Program, which collects used computers and other electronic equipment for recycling. The contractor hired to operate this program is able to assemble, from all the material received, a number of working computers.
The District, seeing that Lorain County could benefit from receiving some of these units, added a clause to the contract requiring that the vendor provide up to 150 refurbished computers per year. These computers are then distributed according to the stipulations set by the District.
The District accepts requests from qualified organizations only. Every type of organization except private, for-profit businesses may apply. This includes, but is not limited to, local governments, public schools, private schools (if they have non-profit status), libraries, churches, charitable groups, and other non-profit organizations.
All that is required is that the group be able to demonstrate that they are considered a non-profit by the IRS, under Regulation 501(3)(c), or any similar regulation, in the U.S. Tax Code. For more information, please download the Refurbished Computer Program Grant Requirements and Application.
