Vibrant NEO Hosts 1st Set of Public Workshops

The Vibrant Northeast Ohio (Vibrant NEO) process uses public workshops to look at the future of our Northeast Ohio. What will it look like, for the 12-counties participating in Vibrant NEO, in 2040 if we keep doing what we’re doing? What are the potential outcomes if we do things differently?
To answer these questions, we need to understand our values and priorities. Lorain County members of Vibrant NEO include the Lorain County Commissioners, Mayor Holly Brinda and Dr. Roy Church.
This first round of Vibrant NEO public workshops revolves around a scenario called “Business-As-Usual.” It outlines what Northeast Ohio’s future will look like if we keep doing what we are currently doing. We need your help to define what we value and what’s most important to this region as we start to create a vision for Northeast Ohio’s future. We can only answer these questions together!
On Tuesday, Apr. 30, 2013 at 6:30 pm, the Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium (NEOSCC) will host a public workshop for Lorain, Medina, and western Cuyahoga counties to discuss NEO's future at the Oberlin Inn (7 N. Main St., Oberlin OH 44074). Event registration will begin at 5:30 pm. Please make Online Reservations to RSVP your attendance in advance.
Wear Blue to Raise Child Abuse Awareness
Lorain County Children Services (LCCS) and the Lorain County Children and Families Council (LCCFC) are once again joining child protection agencies across Ohio and inviting everyone to wear blue on April 10, 2013 for "Wear Blue Day," or WBD. The unified, community-wide act of wearing blue is to help raise awareness of April 2013 as National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
To help people share in the WBD experience, LCCS has created a Facebook Event for the WBD Campaign and is asking the community to participate by clicking "Going" and post photos of people wearing blue on 4-10-13. For links and more information, please visit the Facebook Page for Lorain County Children Services.
Vibrant NEO 2040 to Host Fair Housing Forum
On Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 6:30 pm, the Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium (NEOSCC)* will hold the 2013 Fair Housing Forum at the Lorain County Transportation & Community Center (40 East Ave., Elyria 44035) as part of the Vibrant NEO 2040 Initiative.
A critical component of the Consortium’s work, if not the most critical, is the engagement of stakeholders throughout Northeast Ohio in the planning process.
The 12-county planning foot print contains diverse geographical, cultural, demographic and commercial stakeholders that constitute Northeast Ohio’s unique strengths. It is in bringing this diversity together to design a vision in which they are vested, that a plan and shared commitment can lead to action.
As part of the Regional Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice, the NEOSCC is committed to providing ample opportunity for citizens and communities of Northeast Ohio to share their views on Fair Housing Choice. In striving to create a shared vision for the NEOSCC efforts, one of the primary goals for engagement is to reach as many individuals and organizations throughout the 12 counties to engage and act.
NEOSCC is paying particular attention to those typically underserved or unrepresented in the planning process by working with the marginalized while accommodating limited English speakers, persons with disabilities and the aging.
For anyone in need of special accommodations, please provide advance notice at least five days prior to the event by contacting Anthony Kobak (NEOSCC) at (330) 375-2949. For information about additional events, visit the Vibrant NEO's Event Calendar.
* NEOSCC and Vibrant NEO 2040 are largely funded by a highly competitive, first-of-its kind, $4.25M federal grant from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) as part of the Partnership for Sustainable Communities Initiative. The Sustainable Communities Initiative is an interagency collaboration among HUD, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
NEW! LEEDco Teams-Up w/Wind Turbine Experts
The Lorain County Office of Sustainability was pleased to hear that the LEEDco's World-Class 'Icebreaker' Project Team met on Feb. 5, 2013 in Cleveland, Ohio to kick off the first round of funding from the United States Department of Energy.
LEEDco partners came in from across the United States and Europe to join the local contingent and develop a plan that maximizes Northeast Ohio's competitive position for additional funding. With the combined experience of more than 60 offshore wind farms all in one room, the depth of experience at this meeting was quite impressive!
The team includes an excellent mix both of talented local organizations that understand the character of the local economy and also of global experts that offer practical insight into the challenges and opportunities that come with offshore wind.
These partners have demonstrated their commitment to this project by investing $1 million in cost share funds to supplement the $4 million of funding from the Department of Energy. To learn more about all the team members helping to develop Project 'Icebreaker', please read individual Profiles for the ‘Icebreaker’ Project Partner Factsheet or watch the video of LEEDCo Partner Interviews.
Those interested in hearing more are also invited to attend the upcoming Lorain County Team Tuesday Meeting Featuring Lorry Wagner of LEEDco. This meeting will be held on the Growth Partnership 5th Fl. in the Learning Center (Rm. 555). RSVP's are also requested. For questions regarding this meeting, or to RSVP attendance, please contact Lawrence Hall at (440) 328-2335 / lhall@loraincounty.us. For more information, please visit www.lcgp.net.
